J. GEDDES

There are several paintings of local scenes with the signature J. Geddes. The artist is one of our puzzles; we don't really know who he is. He may have been William's younger brother, John. Any information about him would be welcome, as would the whereabouts and subject matter of any further examples of his work.

The pictures are in oil, are rather 'stiff', and may have been from photographs. The signatures are bold and cursive.

Illustrated below is Geddes painting of the Hill Kirk in Blairgowrie. Also known are paintings of scenes in Alyth and Kirriemuir. A completely different subject, of a sleeping boy and his dog came up on a 'Past Auction Results' website.
