1560 - The Scottish Reformation
Break from Roman Catholic Church and formation of Protestant Church.

1690 - The Established Church of Scotland
Presbyterianism takes over from Episcopalianism in Scotland.

1733 - The First Secession
Members of the Established Church who were opposed to the right of lairds or other patrons to appoint their local minister left the Established Church to form the Secession Church. They claimed the right to appoint their own ministers,

1747 - The Secession Church
The Secession Church split into Burghers and Antiburghers. Burghers took the Burgess Oath; Antiburghers refused to take the Oath.

1820 - Formation of The United Secession Church
A union of New Licht Burghers and New Licht Antiburghers.

1843 - The Disruption
Members broke away from the Church of Scotland to form The Free Church of Scotland.

1847 - Formation of The United Presbyterian Church
A union of the United Secession Church and the Relief Church.

1900 - Formation of the United Free Church
A union of the Free Church and the United Presbyterian Church.
 

9

1929 - Formation of The Church of Scotland
A union of the United Free Church and the Established Church of Scotland.
